2026 New Hires

Welcome to Boston Children’s Hospital! We’re happy you’re here.

We are committed to meeting you and your family’s needs through our benefits program. The “Your Total Rewards. Our Commitment” approach empowers you to shape your experience at every stage of your life’s journey, providing the flexibility and resources needed to support you both personally and professionally.

Your coverage starts on the first day of your employment. Take a moment to walk through each step to learn about your benefits, eligibility, and important deadlines.

As a new hire, this is your opportunity to enroll in all the benefits you and your family will need for the year. You have a 30-day window from your hire date to review and elect/waive coverage. You won’t be able to elect or change your benefits again until the next annual Open Enrollment window or if you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE)*.

Take a moment to think about what your benefits needs are:

  • What eligible family members, if any, do you want to cover?
  • What are your and your family members’ health care needs for the year?
  • Do you need dental and vision coverage?
  • Will you need to elect benefits that offer additional financial protection?
  • Do you need to set aside money for health care, dependent care, or commuter costs?

* A qualifying change in status includes Marriage, divorce, or death of a spouse; Birth, adoption, or death of a dependent; Starting or ending a job for you, your spouse, or a dependent; Job schedule changes affecting your eligibility (e.g., full-time to part-time, unpaid leave); Permanent address change that impacts your coverage (e.g., moving out of an HMO area); and Significant changes to your or your spouse’s non-Boston Children’s plan. Your changes will be effective as of the event date.

Within 30 days of becoming eligible:

You must enroll in the following benefits if you wish to have them for the plan year. Click on each benefit to learn more:

Retirement Benefits

After 30 days of your eligibility date, you will automatically be enrolled with a 5% contribution to the 403(b) plan. You may change this percentage at any time online. You can also enroll in or waive enrollment in your retirement benefits. Your eligibility for Retirement benefits depends on your employment group. For more information and how to log into your account, you can review your Benefits Guide on the Resources & Contacts page.

When Do My Benefits Begin?

Your benefits begin on your hire date, as long as no evidence of insurability (EOI) is required. If EOI is needed, that coverage starts once it’s approved by the insurance carrier.

Benefit deductions are based on the effective coverage date and are not prorated — you’ll be charged the full pay-period amount.

When You’re Ready to Enroll
